Mental Illness Awareness Week

Hey all!

Just so you know it’s Mental Illness Awareness Week! So as always of course, show your respect with anyone with any mental illnesses, but if at all possible, maybe you want to reach out in a way and talk to them and make them feel welcome here at UW-Platteville.

Today I went to a suicide program speech. It was fitting for this week because some people assume that some suicides are caused by mental illnesses. While this can be a factor, this is not always the case.

This 26 year old man named Benjamin took his life last year. It came as such a shock to everyone because he was an extremely selfless person. He’s always helping others when never asking for anything in return.

I just wanted to share this story with you because it was so moving to me. If you have any questions or if you or someone you know is having any problems or ideas of suicide please feel free to talk to myself or any RA as soon as possible. There is help out there beyond us as well, and if you want it just stop by and I’ll give you all resources I know. In case it’s any worry, it’s all confidential.

~RA Joe
