The Perfect Roommate!

Good evening, 6 South!

Thank you to Kayla and Joe for coming to my program last night. We did a hands-on, interactive, and critical thinking scenario on finding the “perfect” roommate. We discussed the importance of not judging others because we have no idea what they may be going through. We also talked about stereotypes and the importance of keeping an open mind when having a roommate. Thanks again to Joe and Kayla for your participation!

Until next time,

Muslim Stereotypes

Hey Rountree Residents!

I made a thing! If you haven’t seen it already, there is a new bulletin board in the main lobby and it’s all about Muslim stereotypes. If you look at the images scattered on the board, some of them represent the stereotypes they have to deal with every day. The rest of them show how they are actually normal people and just want to be treated as such.

However, the main focus of the board are the ten misconceptions. On the outside, it shows a common misconception or stereotype about the Muslim community. Flip it open and you’ll see how the stereotype is just untrue.

So make sure you check it out! Please be respectful to all and have a great day!

Veteran Appreciation Program

veterans-day-image

Hello, 6 South!

This Monday, Joe and I attended the Veteran Appreciation Program in Velzy Commons. There was a brief video and program to recognized the brave men and women who are serving or have served. They recognized those from the Platteville community and also the faculty, staff, and students on campus. It was a very nice program and the chancellor also shared some kind words. We received some refreshment and wrote holiday cards for service men and women that will be sent over seas in the weeks to come. It was a nice time to mingle and thank those who have done so much for us and our nation. Today is Veteran’s Day, and we hope you all can take time out of your day to thank some one who has sacrificed so much.

Until next time,

~RA Lara and RA Joe
